❓ Why is it so hard to stick with commercially available English learning materials?

The reason why people don't stick with commercially available English learning materials is surprisingly simple. Today it's about the weather, tomorrow it's about making restaurant reservations. Even if the material is well-made, if the topic is irrelevant to you, you lose interest and your concentration quickly fades. If you can't read it as something that's relevant to you, you won't have the motivation to continue.

I know what you mean. Studying English can be quite tiring, especially just finding the right materials. You buy books, but then you end up with several on your bookshelf that you only get through the first few pages of. So where can you find materials that you can actually read and relate to?

✍️ I'm going to use my own note articles written in Japanese as teaching materials.

So I came up with the idea of using my own note articles written in Japanese as English learning materials. If I write the articles myself, I have 100% of the background knowledge. Even if I don't understand the English completely, it's easy to guess the content. Moreover, since what's written there is what I really wanted to say, the expressions I learn will be the very expressions I want to use in real life.

I see, so what I want to say can be directly turned into English example sentences. That seems much more appealing than the example sentences in commercially available textbooks. But how do you turn articles written in Japanese into English learning materials? Isn't translation difficult?

📖 Read, listen to, and grasp the English version.

I'll leave the translation to note's multilingual function. After displaying the English version, I'll do slash reading, dividing it into meaningful chunks, and then speed-read it without going back. Next, I'll have Chrome's reading mode read it aloud and listen only to the audio. Because I already know the content, I'm less likely to lose track of the flow of the conversation.

Since it's my own article, I won't get lost when reading or listening. And if it even does the translation automatically, it requires almost no preparation. But I feel like just reading and listening won't make me fluent. How do I practice speaking?

🗣️ Reading aloud, shadowing, and discussing with AI

Speaking practice begins with three stages of reading aloud. Next is overlapping, where you read along with the audio, and shadowing, where you follow slightly behind. Finally, you discuss the content of the article in English with GPT-Live. Receiving questions and counterarguments to your opinions helps you practice communicating.

It's quite impressive that you even get to have a discussion with an AI at the end. I think I could talk about my own articles with confidence, even in English. Even if it contradicts me, I know what I want to say best. But I think I'd be at a loss as to how to talk to an AI at first.

👉 For every article you write, one more learning material will be added.

Every time you write an article, you'll add another English learning material to your collection. As you accumulate them, it will become your own personalized extensive reading resource. In my note articles, I provide detailed information on everything from how to write a profile to the steps involved in reading, listening, and speaking, as well as a collection of English phrases you can use to speak directly to GPT-Live.

It's such a luxury to have your own personalized English learning materials piled up. If you have a collection of phrases you can use right away, you could probably try discussing with AI right away. Whether you're starting to relearn English or you're a writer on Note, please read on.
